Movie rundown for the weekend through June 22: ‘Elio’ opens

OPENING

“28 Years Later” — (Horror, R, 115 minutes). Almost three decades after the rage virus emerged, one of the survivors, who has been living on a small island, goes on a mission to the mainland, where he discovers horrors that have mutated not only the infected but other survivors.

“Bride Hard” — (Action, R, 115 minutes). A mercenary group has no idea what they are in for when they take a wedding hostage, because the maid of honor, who is a secret agent, is ready to punish anyone who thinks about ruining her best friend’s wedding.

“Critical Role Live: Sydney, Australia” — (Special events). Join Critical Role with voiceover actors as they plunge into epic adventures, led by game master Matthew Mercer.

“Elio” — (Animation, PG, 99 minutes). A space fanatic named Elio, who is trying to figure out who he is meant to be, is beamed up to Communiverse where he forms bonds with alien lifeforms while navigating an intergalactic crisis.

“Red Velvet Happiness Diary: My Dear, ReVe1uv in Cinemas” — (Concert, not rated, 114 minutes). Live performances from the 2024 Red Velvet Fancon Tour in Seoul.

“Ballerina” — (Action, R, 125 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. Eve Macarro, an assassin trained in the traditions of the Ruska Roma, seeks revenge after her father dies.

“Bring Her Back” — (Horror, R, 99 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. While at the secluded home of their new foster mother, a brother and sister discover a terrifying ritual.

“Brokeback Mountain” 20th Anniversary — (Drama, R, 134 minutes). The lives of two shepherds get complicated when they fall for each other, but they still get married to their respective girlfriends.

“DAN DA DANcq: Evil Eye” — (Animation, R, 93 minutes). To try to solve a mystery surrounding the family, Momo and Okarun embark on an adventure to a hot- springs town.

“Dangerous Animals” — (Horror, R, 93 minutes). After being abducted by a shark-obsessed serial killer, Zephy must find a way to get off the boat before he feeds her to the sharks.

“Final Destination Bloodlines” — (Horror, R, 110 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. After having a recurring nightmare, a college student returns home to get help from the one person who can break the cycle and save her family from a horrific fate.

“Friendship” — (Comedy, R, 100 minutes). Grade: C, Michael Phillips. Two lives are threatened to be ruined when a suburban dad falls for his new neighbor.

“How to Train Your Dragon” — (Adventure, PG, 120 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. During a time when an ancient threat endangers dragons and Vikings on the isle of Berk, a friendship forms between Hiccup, an inventive Viking, and a Night Fury dragon named Toothless.

“Karate Kid: Legends” — (Action, PG-13, 94 minutes). Grade: C, Katie Walsh. After getting unwanted attention from a local karate champion in New York City, kung fu prodigy Li Fong asks Mr. Han and Daniel LaRusso for help when he decides to enter the ultimate karate competition.

“The Life of Chuck” — (Drama, R, 110 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. A story based on Stephen King’s novella about the life of an ordinary man named Charles Krantz.

“Lilo & Stitch” — (Comedy, PG, 108 minutes). Grade: A-, Katie Walsh. A lonely Hawaiian girl asks a fugitive alien to help mend her broken family.

“Materialists” — (Comedy, R, 116 minutes). Grade: B, Katie Walsh. A New York matchmaker is torn between her imperfect ex and her perfect match.

“Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning” — (Action, PG-13, 169 minutes). Grade: A-, Katie Walsh. Ethan Hunt learns that our lives are the sum of our many choices when he and the IMF team must find a rogue artificial intelligence before it destroys mankind.

“Only We Know” — (Drama, not rated, 101 minutes). As they deal with judgment and loneliness, a retired teacher and a widowed engineer wonder if their friendship may turn into something more meaningful.

“Pavements” — (Music, not rated, 128 minutes). A music documentary about the band Pavement.

“The Phoenician Scheme” — (Action, PG-13, 101 minutes). Grade: B-, Michael Phillips. After a wealthy businessman appoints his only daughter, a nun, as heir to his estate, they become the target of foreign terrorists and assassins.

“The Secret World of Arrietty” 15th Anniversary Studio Ghibli Fest 2025 — (Animation, G, 94 minutes). The life of the Clock family, 4-inch-tall people living anonymously in another family’s home, changes when the teenage daughter Arrietty is discovered.

“Sinners” — (Horror, R, 137 minutes). Grade: A-, Katie Walsh. When twin brothers return to their hometown to leave their troubled lives behind and start over, they find that evil is waiting to welcome them back.

“Thunderbolts*” — (Action, PG-13, 126 minutes). Grade: B-, Katie Walsh. While on a dangerous mission, an unconventional team of antiheroes must confront their dark pasts when they get captured in a death trap.

“The Unholy Trinity” — (Action, R, 93 minutes). While on a journey to fulfill his estranged father’s last wish before he was executed, Henry goes to the remote town of Trinity to kill the man who framed his father. But he finds himself caught between the town’s sheriff, who is determined to keep order, and a stranger who is determined to destroy everything.
