A sandbox truck collided with a natural gas line in Weld County, causing an explosion Thursday afternoon.
The accident occurred near Weld County Road 72 and Weld County Road 27 just north of Greeley around 4:30 p.m. Thursday, said Joe Moylan, a public information officer for the Weld County Sheriff’s Office.
Moylan did not know the current status of the driver, or whether he was able to escape prior to the crash.
Atmos Energy is on scene and is working to shut off the gas line, while Greeley, Windsor, Ault and Eaton fire crews battled the blaze.
All roads within a mile radius are currently closed and won’t reopen for several hours at the earliest, Moylan said.
The Colorado State Patrol is taking over the investigation to discover what led to the crash.
