Aurora PD investigating racist and sexual images graffitied at elementary school

Multiple racist messages and sexual images were found on the playground at Coyote Hills Elementary school in Aurora Friday morning, officials said.

Staff members found the vulgar messages and images early Friday and were able to cover them before any students arrived, said Abbe Smith, the chief communications officer for the Cherry Creek School District in an email statement to The Denver Gazette.

Principal Hilary Pohlmann wrote a letter informing parents and staff members of the incident Friday.

“Any hate-motivated speech or behavior by students, staff, or anyone in our community that is physically or psychologically harmful to another person will not be tolerated,” Pohlmann wrote in an email acquired by The Denver Gazette.

“Our greatest responsibility as a school district is to provide safe and welcoming schools where students of every race, ethnicity, religion, gender and sexual orientation feel valued and supported.”

School officials are currently working with the Aurora Police Department “to find and hold accountable the persons responsible.”

After looking through surveillance footage, officials now believe the culprits were two teenage males, Pohlmann said in the letter.
