Two are dead following a plane crash that took place on the morning of May 17 at an open space in the Broomfield area.

The crash occurred at about 10 a.m., with the plane ending up in a field near Brainard Drive and Midway Boulevard – on the northwest side of the city. The plane had previously left from a runway at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport and was in the process of returning to the airport due to some sort of issue. Details about that issue have not been released.

Following the crash, a small grass fire started in the field, with this quickly extinguished by firefighters.

The open space area where the plane crashed has an agriculture closure underway, with authorities requesting that the public avoid the crash site.

At the time of the crash, it was unknown how many people were on board. It has since been reported that two deaths occurred and that there were no survivors. The two deceased parties have not yet been identified via official means.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation at last report.
