All of Boulder County under level two fire restrictions facing dangerous weather conditions

fire weather

Level two fire restrictions have been extended to all areas of unincorporated Boulder County as a result of high fire danger, Sheriff Joe Pelle announced Monday.

Previously, western Boulder County was placed under level two fire restrictions on July 10.

The expanded restrictions are a result of very low humidity levels, above normal temperatures and no sign of relief in upcoming forecasts, Pelle said in the announcement.

“We are still concerned about the firefighting and law enforcement resources while we have the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” the announcement said.

The new restrictions are effective immediately.

Level two restrictions prohibit activities including using/selling fireworks, shooting firearms for recreation, using explosives and starting campfires or stove fires on public or private lands, including on grills and barbecues.

The restrictions also ban the use of chainsaws and torches without proper precautions like chemical pressurized fire extinguishers and spark arresters.

Activities such as shooting for hunting or in shooting ranges, smoking in enclosed vehicles or buildings and using stoves, grills or lanterns three feet from flammable materials are allowed.

Anyone found in violation of the fire ban may face a fine of up to $1,000 and be convicted of a class two petty offense. Higher fines may be imposed for subsequent offenses.

The fire restrictions will be in effect until Pelle announces that hazardous conditions have subsided.
