DU will require vaccinations for fall semester

The University of Denver announced Tuesday that all students will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination before they are allowed to return to campus this fall.

University Chancellor Jeremy Haefner said in a statement that students at every level are required to follow the new guidelines to live, learn or work on campus.

Exceptions will be made for students with documented medical and religious exemptions. Details about how to provide proof will be released at a later date, officials said.

Currently, nearly 80% of the university’s staff and faculty members have reported to the university that they’ve received the COVID-19 vaccine.

University officials are still in the process of determining whether to require the remaining 20% to get the vaccine, according to Tuesday’s release.

“Widespread vaccination will allow us to turn the page on this challenging moment in history, protect the health and safety of the community, and gather together, safely, once again,” Haefner said.

The university has established a “Vaccine FAQ” page for students, parents, staff and faculty to provide more information about Tuesday’s decision.
