Air Force women fall as Colorado State finishes final season sweep in series; Milahnie Perry climbs to No. 2 on scoring list
The Air Force women exploded early at Colorado State, but just as quickly burned out in their final trip to Fort Collins as conference foes.
The Falcons hit five 3s over the first 15 minutes and led by eight. They then missed their next 10 3-pointers the rest of the way and lost 66-52 to a Rams team that is in the hunt for the No. 2 seed for next week’s Mountain West tournament.
The Falcons (13-16, 7-12 Mountain West) are still technically alive for the No. 7 seed, but it seems more likely they’ll be in the 8-9 game when the action starts in Las Vegas.
Air Force concludes its regular season at home Tuesday against league-leading San Diego State.
Milahnie Perry scored 17 points and now has 1,714 in her career. That mark passed Michelle Johnson (1,706 from 1977-81) in second place on Air Force’s all-time list.
Perry is now within 24 points of Melissa Standley (1,738 points from 1986-90) atop the program’s all-time scoring list with two guaranteed games remaining.
But Perry’s points Saturday came on 7-of-23 shooting as the Falcons as a whole went cold, shooting 17-of-62 (27.4%) in the game.
Colorado State (23-7, 14-5) outscored the Falcons 38-16 in the paint and outrebounded them 46-32.
The Rams completed a season sweep of Air Force, as they also won 65-63 at Clune Arena on Jan. 14.
Lexus Bargesser led the way with 16 points and 10 rebounds for Colorado State, which will depart for the Pac-12 following this season while the Falcons remain in the Mountain West.
