Cam Crabtree on a mission to play every golf course in Colorado | Golf Insider
It began with a simple conversation between two golf pros.
“So how it all started was, like a couple of years ago, I was sitting in the pro shop during the wintertime with another pro,” PGA professional Cam Crabtree told The Denver Gazette. “There’s a magazine that had a map of every course in Colorado, and we started going through it because we were just bored and being like, let’s see how many like each one of us has played.
“Then both of us realized we played quite a lot. And I was like, I should try to play all of them.”
That conversation led to Crabtree’s quest to play every golf course in Colorado.
Crabtree, who is originally from Texas and moved to Colorado in 2016, teaches at CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora. When not working with golfers outdoors, he moves his teaching inside to Denver Golf Performance.
About six months into his attempt to play every course, another conversation led to the attempt to get as many eyeballs on this endeavor as possible.
“Another pro was like, ‘Hey, man, I think you should try putting that on the internet,'” Crabtree said. “The first time I took a video, it was in a tournament. I just pulled my phone out of my pocket a couple times and took some, probably like a dozen videos that day.”
He posted those videos to Instagram and the first one got roughly 15,000 views. His audience grew with each video he published on social media.
“I was like, I guess people are into this, and the next few videos got over 100,000. I started getting blown up with followers, and then it’s like, I guess I’m doing this now,” he said.
The conversations and the social media excitement led to the creation of “Every Course in Colorado.”

Golf and social media videos have gone hand in hand the last few years. The YouTube channels of No Laying Up, Fried Egg Golf, Bob Does Sport and Grant Horvat are all well over 150,000 followers, with accounts such as Bob Does Sports and Grant Horvat pushing over a million.
“It’s cool because it’s a way to share just how incredible the golf access that we have in Colorado is,” Crabtree said. “Beyond just the incredible private and high-end courses that are out there, all throughout the state, there are all these little courses and communities that every course serves a purpose.
“It’s cool to be able to share that with everybody and put a lot of these underrated courses out there to people and courses that people have never heard of before to get them to go try it out.”
Crabtree said there are just under 300 courses in Colorado. That number is not determined by facilities but by the actual courses. For example, CommonGround counts as two because it has an 18-hole course as well as a par-3 course. Crabtree wants to play them all.
As of Wednesday, he has played 125 courses in the state. This week, he is traveling out to Holyoke to play Ballyneal Golf Club. Crabtree feels his video series will bring awareness that Colorado is a top spot for golf.
“I would think just based on the variety of golf that we have here,” Crabtree, who began documenting every course in April 2025, said. “If you go down to Florida, every Florida golf course is essentially the same.”
Like most of the time with social media, the public will leave comments on his posts. Crabtree tries to stay positive with every course he reviews and doesn’t want to come across negatively.
“Social media’s so polarizing. You never know what you’re going to get with people,” he said. “I will get comments that this is one of my favorite courses, and you’ll get the opposite, where it’ll be like, this course is the dump, and this course is terrible.
“I don’t ever bash courses, but I kind of say what they are.”
Showing that every golf course serves a purpose is a goal for Crabtree. He had a recent post about how Fossil Trace Golf Club in Golden is a great place to go but may not be for everybody.
“I think it’s great, and I think that they all recognize what it is over there, too,” he said. “That’s a fun course. I enjoy playing it every couple of years. You get some laughs, you get some cool pictures. But that’s what it is, and their tee sheet stays packed every day with people that have that same appreciation.”

The Texas native, who was an engineer before becoming a golf pro, created an algorithm to see when he could finish his mission. It said February 2039. He feels he will be done long before that.
“I think with the pace I’m going, my goal is to knock off, like, 25 to 50 new courses a year,” Crabtree said. “I think realistically, I’m closer to being done in like the next three to four years. And then it’s kind of just going from there, wherever this whole journey takes me.”
Crabtree is unsure what’s next after he plays every course. He has a full teaching schedule and will continue to post other golf videos on topics such as tee times in Colorado, playing the correct tees and golf instruction in general.
No matter the future after “Every Course in Colorado,” he is enjoying the ride.
“There’s really no bad days being a golf pro,” he said.
