E-bike rider who died during I-70 police chase identified

An e-bike rider who was struck and killed after driving onto Interstate 70 in Denver while eluding police last week has been identified.

Dallas Doherty, 35, was hit by a driver near the interstate’s westbound Steele Street exit around 7:30 p.m. June 11, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. He was taken to a hospital, where he died just after midnight June 12 from the multiple blunt impact injuries he sustained.

Doherty allegedly entered the highway in an attempt to flee from officers who were following him before the crash took place, according to the Denver Police Department.

Several lanes of the highway were closed as investigators responded to the scene and the department is conducting an internal review of the incident, as is standard protocol.

The examiner’s office officially labeled the death as an accident.
