Elmo’s opinion of the Colorado Rockies? ‘The team’s OK’
Even Elmo thinks the Colorado Rockies are just OK.
The Rockies lost to the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday, 9-3, racking up another blow for a team with years of historic losses.
At the game, sitting in the booth with longtime local Philadelphia Phillies announcers for NBC Sports Tom McCarthy and John Kruk was beloved children’s television character, Elmo.
The move was part of a community initiative with the Philadelphia Phillies to ‘Strike Out the Stigma,’ which coordinates events that support mental health awareness.
At one point during the television broadcast, announcer Tom McCarthy asks Elmo if he is enjoying the game.
“Oh, it’s been wonderful,” Elmo exclaims, “and Elmo loves the Phillies! Go, Phillies baby!”
Elmo was seen in the play-by-play booth throughout the broadcast wearing a Phillies jersey and talking with McCarthy and Kruk about his love for baseball, the Phanatic and all things Phillies.
Later in the broadcast, Elmo says how much he wishes to see a home run, and McCarthy corrects him that they wouldn’t like to see the home run during ‘this half’ while the Colorado Rockies were on the field at bat.
“Now we’re playing the Rockies tonight,” says McCarthy, “you like rocks?”

Elmo stares blankly into the camera for a moment before saying, “Well, not really.” Elmo says, “You see, there’s this whole thing with a rock called Rocco. Its kind of taken the internet by storm.”
Elmo has a longstanding beef with his costar on Sesame Street, a character by the name of Rocco, which all the other characters on the show treat as though it is alive, while Elmo insists that Rocco is just a rock.
Rocco drives Elmo crazy.
“But Elmo likes the Rockies,” says Elmo, explaining Rocco to Kruk, “it’s OK, the team is OK.”
Elmo did, in fact, get to see his home run later in the game — just not from the Rockies.
