Larimer Square getting 391-foot mural by Denver street artist Pat Milbery
Denver’s first historic district is getting a makeover.
Larimer Square announced street artist Pat Milbery will be painting a 391-foot, large-scale mural spanning the entire block between 14th and 15th streets.
Milbery plans to attend Larimer Square’s Spring Fling: Art in Bloom event this Saturday to share a rendering of his mural design. The mural is expected to be finished by May 29, Larimer Square officials said.
“This bright piece will feature a welcoming energy, mixing the old with the new and pulling people in with magnetic colors and leading them on a journey of exploration to all of the shops and restaurants,” Milbery said in a news release announcing the mural. “I really wanted to pay homage to Larimer Square’s historical roots and Dana Crawford, but put a modern twist on everything.”
Denverites are probably familiar with Milbery’s work — even if they don’t realize it. A former professional snowboarder, Milbery has painted several dozen large-scale murals around the Mile High City, including his well-known “Love This City” mural series, one of which features a large red heart with “Denver” emblazoned over the top of it.

His large-scale murals typically feature vibrant geometric shapes and uplifting phrases.
Milbery also designed the Colorado Rapids’ “New Day” kit that the club wore from 2023-24. A portion of the proceeds from the jersey sales funded mental health initiatives in Colorado. Milbery also painted a mural inspired by the jersey at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.

One of Milbery’s favorite murals he’s done in Denver features comedian Robin Williams and says “Smile”, which he painted in the days following the comedian’s death in August 2014.
Milbery also worked on a massive street mural in front of the Denver City and County Building in June 2020.
The Spring Fling at Larimer Square takes place from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, is free to attend, and features local music, art, flowers, food and shopping.
