Metro Moves: New indoor go-kart park opens in Thornton

There’s a new indoor go-kart center in Thornton.

Go-karting company K1 Speed announced it opened a new location in Thornton on Tuesday. It’s the company’s second location in Colorado following its go-kart center in Littleton. K1 Speed has more than 107 locations around the world, including in China, Mexico, Italy and more.

The new Colorado location spans 50,000 square feet in a parcel off of Interstate 25 at 16059 Grant St., next to Top Golf.

The opening is set to create 30 jobs for the town, K1 Speed officials said in a news release.

The amusement center features a year-round track for go-kart racing, an arcade and food and drinks. The karts are Italian-made, electric and capable of reaching 45 mph. The junior karts for younger drivers can go up to 20 mph.

“The anticipation from the Thornton community has been incredible, and we are thrilled to finally wave the green flag,” said K1 Speed CEO and Co-Founder David Danglard in a news release. “With state-of-the-art electric karts, an expansive arcade and the Paddock Lounge restaurant, K1 Speed Thornton is designed to be the ultimate entertainment destination. From families, to local businesses, to aspiring professional drivers, we are incredibly proud to offer a second premier venue for the Denver metropolitan area.”

Slice House by Tony Gemignani is expanding across Colorado

After making its first debut in Colorado in 2025, a fast-casual pizza chain from an acclaimed San Francisco chef plans to bring several more restaurants to the state.

Slice House by Tony Gemignani is coming to Longmont and Denver this year, the company announced. The chain debuted in northern Colorado’s Loveland last year, as well as in Boulder.

The Longmont location is set to open at 725 Harvest Moon Drive this summer, Slice House said. There’s no set date for when the Denver location will open at 555 Broadway, though a spokesperson for the company said they’re targeting a fall opening date.

Gemignani is an award-winning pizza chef and two of his restaurants earned spots on the 50 Top Pizza USA 2025 list, with his San Francisco flagship restaurant Tony’s Pizza Napoletana named as the third best pizza place in the nation.

Slice House officials said the expansion marks Colorado as one of the company’s “most significant growth markets in the country” with plans to bring a dozen locations in the “horizon.”

“Colorado has such a vibrant and evolving food scene, making it an exciting place for Slice House to continue growing,” Gemignani said in a press release. “We’re proud to expand our presence here and introduce more communities across the state to the craftsmanship, quality, and variety that define Slice House and our world-class pizzas.”

A speakeasy opens in Lone Tree

Speakeasies aren’t only meant for city life; they’re coming to the suburbs, too.

The Blind Tiger, a New Orleans-inspired speakeasy, opened this month underground the Jack’s Modern Steakhouse in Lone Tree.

Jack’s Modern Steakhouse opened in January and soon experienced an electrical fire days after its debut. The disaster became an opportunity as the team saw potential to turn the space into a speakeasy.

“When we first opened, we noticed guests needed somewhere to go when the bar and dining room were full, and we had this incredible downstairs space with so much potential,”  said Darryl Shoemake, president of Jack’s Modern Steakhouse, in a press release.  “The fire gave us the opportunity to really look at what we had and turn it into something entirely different, something that stands on its own.”

The Blind Tiger will continuously play jazz and blues music and has a secret menu. It’s walk-in only and designed for diners to go before dinner as they wait for their table or after. Guests can also come only for a drink and don’t have to eat dinner at Jack’s Modern Steakhouse.

The speakeasy is open Thursdays to Saturdays, starting at 4 p.m., and is located at 9155 Park Meadows Drive
