Real-life ‘Grinch’ caught on camera stealing Christmas decorations in Denver neighborhood

The suspect, wearing a Puma sweatshirt, was seen snatching a Christmas wreath on Dec. 22 at 9:40 p.m.

A real-life ‘Grinch’ was caught on camera this week, as security footage captured a hooded male suspect stealing Christmas decorations from a Denver neighborhood.

Ring Camera footage posted to social media shows a male suspect wearing a Puma sweatshirt, beanie, headphones and a backpack snatching a holiday wreath from an unidentified resident’s front door.

According to time stamps from the footage, the event occurred on Dec. 22 at around 9:40 p.m. Location data shows the event occurred in Denver’s Alamo Placita neighborhood.

Toward the end of the video, the suspect is shown throwing the wreath to the ground. However, the original poster of the video claims the suspect later picked the wreath up and “took off with it.”

While the theft of holiday decorations are less well known, porch piracy has become common during the holidays. More than 1,500 packages have been stolen so far this year, an 18% rise compared to the average of the past three years, according to data provided by Denver police.

The original poster of the video said a police report has been filed, but a DPD spokesperson was unable to confirm whether an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

As one poster on the Ring Neighbors application identified as “Neighbor 14” put it, “Merry Christmas to everyone but this guy.”
