The County Sheriffs of Colorado announced Tuesday that a Jefferson County student has the opportunity to earn a scholarship this spring.

Jefferson County Sheriff Jeff Shrader said his agency will match CSOC’s funds that will bring the scholarship to $1,000, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

CSOC is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to preserving and protecting sheriff’s offices across Colorado by providing programs and support.

It established its scholarship in 1978 and has continued “a meaningful expression of the sheriffs’ confidence in and respect for education and training.”

Applications are open to the public through Feb. 26 for any student who intends to join a training program or further pursue their education from Colorado.

The scholarship is offered to half of the state’s counties every other year, and this year Boulder, Broomfield, Douglas and Jefferson counties are eligible.

Jefferson County residents are required to include a personal letter describing their future plans and reason for scholarship application, a transcript and two reference letters, according to the sheriff’s office.

A citizens committee will review each application and select a winner, who will be notified by April 30, officials said.
