Presidents Day may not bring about the feasts of Thanksgiving or the fireworks of Independence Day, but the holiday does lead to the closures of government agencies across the nation — meaning a day off for many.

Oh, and lots of sales at retail stores.

Most government offices and city agencies in the state will be shut down on Monday in observation of Presidents Day, a federal holiday. There will be no mail services that day, either.

Most businesses will remain open through the holiday, though some may be operating with a limited schedule or complete closures. Potential customers should check out a business’ specific website before traveling to it.

All 24-hour agencies — like emergency services and the Denver International Airport — will remain full operations on Presidents Day.

Aurora will close most city buildings and agencies on Monday, including libraries, courts and the Aurora Animal Shelter. Recreational centers and indoor pools will remain open.

Douglas, Adams, Jefferson and Arapahoe counties will all see government buildings and agencies close on the holiday, as well. Citizens can check county websites for specific closure information.

As always, parking within Denver remains free on the holiday.

All state parks, county parks, campgrounds and boat ramps will remain open through the holiday. All Colorado Parks and Wildlife offices will be closed, though.

Presidents Day will mark the last federal holiday until Memorial Day on May 27.
