Pekinese puppy reunited with owner after 3-hour rescue in Douglas County
5-pound puppy, Archie Bean, fell into a third-floor townhome vent and ended up in the basement
A 12-week-old Pekinese puppy has been reunited safely with its owner after falling through an open floor vent on the third floor of a townhome.
On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 5 p.m., South Metro Fire Rescue and Douglas County Sheriff Deputies responded to calls for help at 9394 Ashbury Circle in unincorporated Douglas County.
The 5-pound puppy, named Archie Bean, unintentionally slipped through the uncovered vent after jumping from the bed, leaving the dog stranded for over three hours.
Rescuers from SMFR, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and plumbers from Plumbline Services spent over three hours on the rescue, cutting through drywall and ductwork to locate the animal. They also used a small camera deployed into the ducts .
The identity of the dog’s owner was not disclosed by the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, but she was quoted in a video from the department as saying, “That is a prayer answered.”
“My mind is on a whirlwind right now,” the puppy’s owner said. “It felt like we could hear him everywhere, but he went from the third floor down to the basement. He fell from the third floor down to the basement and he doesn’t have a cut on him.”
