Denver American Elm restaurant homicides still unsolved 2 years later

Crime Stoppers reward for information leading to an arrest has grown to $32,600

The Denver Police Department and Metro Denver Crime Stoppers are offering a reward of up to $32,600 for information related to an unsolved double homicide that happened at a Denver restaurant two years ago.

Emerall Vaughn-Dahler, 34, and Ignacio “Nacho” Gutierrez, 58, were two employees of the American Elm restaurant in the West Highlands neighborhood of Denver who were shot dead on April 24, 2023, according to a news release from the Denver Police Department.

Two years later, police have still been unable to identify who the killer or killers of the pair may be. The potential reward for information leading to an arrest has grown three separate times since the incident occurred.

The double homicide shocked the West Highlands community, as residents were horrified to learn of such an incident happening in a neighborhood they considered to be safe.

A GoFundMe page created just a day after the incident reflected an outpouring of community support for the families affected, raising over $150,000 for the families of the victims before it was locked. Donors also contributed to the Crime Stoppers reward.

Vaughn-Dahler, originally from St Johns, Ariz., joined the American Elm team in June 2021 as a server, quickly rising the ranks to become a general manager, according to prior reporting. She is survived by her son, Michael, and her husband Andrew.

Gutierrez, originally from Puebla, Mexico, worked for years at another restaurant before coming to American Elm as a prep cook, and was well-respected in Denver’s culinary community. He is survived by his three children Cinthia, Johnathan and Alex.

Police are asking those who were in the area of the 4100 block of West 38th Avenue between 10 a.m. and noon on April 24, 2023 to come forward with any information that could be relevant to this case, including any details they believe may be small or insignificant, according to the release.

People with information about the killings can reach Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. All callers will remain anonymous.
