Hiker dies following heart attack on Quandary Peak

According to a press release by the Summit County Rescue group, a hiker has passed away following a heart attack on Quandary Peak near Breckenridge, Colorado. The hiker was 67 years old and approximately half a mile up a trail to the summit that is 6.75 miles round trip. The trail rises rapidly, climbing close to 3,500 feet in less than 3.5 miles. The hiker was from Colorado and was with a group of friends at the time. Despite life-saving efforts by paramedics from Red, White, and Blue Fire Department, he was pronounced dead at the trailhead.

Quandary Peak’s East Ridge is a Class 1 climb that’s known for being a consistently steep climb to a 14,265-foot summit. It’s one of Colorado’s more popular fourteeners with an estimated 20-25,000 people attempting to summit each year.
