Body found in Rocky Mountain National Park suspected to be missing man
It was reported on Friday that search and rescue teams found a body west of Keplinger’s Couloir at 12,600 feet in Rocky Mountain National Park. This is believed to be the body of Jens “Jay” Yambert, 60, of Urbana, Illinois. Recovery efforts are set to begin on Saturday.
According to Rocky Mountain National Park, Yambert is said to have started his hike at the Longs Peak trailhead on Sunday, August 26. Yambert was allegedly headed toward the Longs Peak summit, as several witnesses reported seeing someone matching his description on the Keyhole Route. The man was reported missing on the following Tuesday.
Yambert is said to be an avid hiker with quite a bit of trail experience.
A famous route the reaches the summit of the 14,255-foot Longs Peak, the Keyhole Route covers rugged terrain over 14.5 miles round-trip, with more than 5,000 feet of elevation gain and exposed Class 3 scrambling.
