In a bizarre wildlife-related incident that took place in Boulder County on Tuesday, a bighorn sheep ended up stuck on the roof of a home. This prompted a rescue mission that took place over the span of a day and a half.

After the report of the bighorn sheep on the roof was made, wildlife officers monitored the situation, observing the animal making it down to the deck of the house. Unfortunately, the sheep was still stuck.

About a day and a half passed until wildlife officers opted to cut out a portion of the deck railing to give the bighorn sheep a clear exit point. At that point, the sheep made it down from the home and ventured back into the wild.

Thankfully, this story had a happy ending, and it can still be used to serve up a few important reminders for Colorado’s residents.

First, if an animal is spotted in a situation where they appear stuck or in distress, contact local wildlife authorities at the closest Colorado Parks and Wildlife office. Their expert team will know how to proceed in a manner that’s best for wildlife and humans that are involved in a given situation. Don’t try to solve the situation yourself, as animals that are injured or scared can behave in an aggressive manner and unpredictable manner that could put both you and the animal at risk.

Second, it’s important for Colorado’s residents to be aware of potential problem areas in and around their living space that may trap or injure animals. This may include anything from holiday decor that can get tangled around an animal to access points where an animal could climb onto a roof. Dangerous fencing, sports nets, and window wells can also be problematic, as all of those items have created issues with wildlife in the Centennial State before.
