Christmas countdown: 11 ways to celebrate the holidays around Colorado Springs

There are many ways to celebrate the Christmas season in Colorado Springs. Read on for a range of activities to try out — you may even find a new tradition along the way.

1. Go ice skating in Acacia Park

In the heart of downtown Colorado Springs, you can glide at Skate in the Park. The rink will be open daily at Acacia Park until Jan. 31. You can find the schedule here.

2. See “Elf the Musical” or “Santa’s Elves Present: Who’s Got Talent?”

Catch a holiday production at either Colorado Springs Fine Arts Center to see “Elf the Musical” or at the Milbo Art Theater to see “Santa’s Elves Present: Who’s got Talent.”

Both performances are near guarantees to get even a Scrooge or Grinch into the holiday spirit.


3. Experience the Magic of Lights at Pikes Peak International Raceway

You and your family can stay warm as you drive through a light show described by the Pikes Peak International Raceway website as “featuring favorite holiday scenes and characters of the season using the latest LED technology and digital animations.”

This holiday event is running until Dec. 31.

4. Visit The North Pole

Just outside of Colorado Springs in Cascade, you can find The North Pole-Santa’s Workshop. There, you can visit Santa, explore the village shops, eat sweet treats and hop on a variety of rides.

This park is open daily (except Tuesdays) until Christmas Eve.

5. Check out the life-sized gingerbread display at the Broadmoor

The Broadmoor’s life-sized gingerbread boat was made up of 2,400 gingerbread biscuits, 3,000 macaroons, 2,000 puff pastries and even more sweets according to previous Gazette reporting.

The public can view this masterpiece of sugar and cheer until Dec. 20.

Downtown and Old Colorado City are full of shops offering unique, and often, handmade gifts. If you’re running behind on holiday shopping, these shops can be the perfect places to finish up your search.

7. Visit the Miracle Pop-Up at Trainwreck

Trainwreck is a restaurant and bar in downtown Colorado Springs. It has transformed into a festive wonderland with floor-to-ceiling Christmas decorations.

Along with the decorations, special adult beverages such as the Christmas Carol Barrel and Holiday Spiked Chai are available.

This pop-up will continue until Dec. 31.

8. Go to a holiday artist co-op

Those looking to explore the arts and craft shows in the area can find one in Manitou Springs, running through Dec. 28. Another, in downtown Colorado Springs, is running until Jan. 4. Both will feature several local artists and feature pieces for sale.

9. Celebrate the season at Flying W Ranch

Looking for live music? The Flying W Ranch is hosting the Cowboy Christmas Jubilee. The Flying W Wranglers will serenade those in attendance with Christmas songs and nostalgia.

“One of the most talented groups in Flying W history will perform a Western Christmas Jubilee that will make your heart sing, take you back to years gone by, and take you to a babe in a manger where the redemption of the world began,” their website reads.

10. Spend time with animals at Cheyenne Mountain Zoo’s Electric Safari

11. Tour downtown’s holiday flavors with Holiday Lights and Bites Food Tour

Rocky Mountain Food Tours is offering a special holiday treat for foodies.

“Join us for a holiday-themed progressive dinner featuring four delightful courses in the heart of downtown Colorado Springs,” their website reads.

The tours run Dec. 19-21 and Dec. 26-28. You can sign up here.
