Incredible 60-plus inches of snow falls on Colorado town
It’s official – an updated snow totals report that’s published by the National Weather Service shows that more than 60 inches landed in a populated part of Colorado. This much snow landing somewhere that’s not in the backcountry is quite rare.
Aspen Springs, which is located in Gilpin County in the Black Hawk area, has gotten a remarkable 61.5 inches of fresh powder between Wednesday afternoon and Friday morning as a major storm rolled through the Centennial State. And that total is only based on snow that fell through 7 a.m. on Friday, meaning that the true total for the two-day storm may have grown to be even higher.
While nowhere else is currently reporting a full five feet-plus of snow, many populated spots around the Front Range have reported big totals. A few notable reports include the 53 inches that fell in Nederland, 44 inches in Manitou Springs, 36 inches in Estes Park, and 24 inches in Colorado Springs. See more totals here.
The weekend should be mostly dry in Colorado, with above-freezing temperatures clearing roads relatively fast throughout the weekend. That being said, snowy, icy, and muddy conditions can be expected on many of the state’s trails.
Looking ahead, there’s another chance of heavy snow in Colorado in about a week.
