Forecasters call for double-digit snow totals in Colorado this week

Sunny days of spring may be present in Colorado right now, but more wintery weather is on the way.

Forecasters are officially calling for potential double-digit totals to hit the state this weekend, including Joel Gratz of OpenSnow and Denver Gazette‘s Jonathan Ingraham.

Gratz is calling for around 12 inches of snow in the state’s mountains from Friday to Sunday, with Arapahoe Basin expected to get the deepest totals – 13 inches – over the next five days as of now (see the full resort-by-resort OpenSnow breakdown here).

In Ingraham’s prediction, snow totals in the range of 10 to 12 inches will be likely during this period in much of the state’s mountainous terrain. While Denver is expected to be favored in terms of precipitation, warmer temperatures here should prevent much snow accumulation from taking place – if any accumulation even happens at all. Given that temperatures should remain above 40 degrees in the Mile High City over the weekend, this precipitation will likely be rain.

At higher elevations, however, temperatures will be low enough to produce snow. For example, Mountain-Forecast.com is calling for 32 inches of snow on Longs Peak during this period.

Long story short, don’t be fooled by sunny mid-week skies. Snow and rain is on the way to Colorado.
