Body found in Colorado River believed to be man traveling on ‘homemade raft’ with dog

On May 10, a body was found in the Colorado River in the area of Grand Canyon National Park.

Preliminary information points to the body being that of missing person Thomas L. Robison, 58 and of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Robison is believed to have been traveling down the Colorado River on a wooden raft with his dog, an 11-year-old corgi. NBC News described the raft as homemade.

Robison’s vehicle was previously found abandoned on April 21 at Lees Ferry in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, which is about 85 miles from the North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

At last report, details were not released related to the whereabouts of Robison’s dog.

The Colorado River in the area of the Grand Canyon is considered to be rough, not for the inexperienced. Robison’s experience level was not noted in the press release on the discovery of the body, which is yet to be formally identified.

Authorities will confirm the identity of the body that was discovered in upcoming days.
