Colorado mountain town makes list of best places to visit for fall
One of the best things about the fall is the opportunity to see the vibrant colors of the season.
USA Today recently published a list of the best places to visit for fall, known for their “beautiful scenery, fantastic weather, and wealth of seasonal activities and events.” Colorado’s Estes Park made the list.
USA Today’s 10Best is a reader’s choice awards program that highlights the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do. An expert panel picks the nominees and readers vote to determine the winners.
Estes Park took fifth place. Known as the base of Rocky Mountain National Park, the town is home to plenty of wildlife like elk and bears, as well as some classic Colorado scenery. Visitors can celebrate the arrival of fall in Estes Park with events including the Autumn Gold Festival, Elk Fest, and Pumpkins & Pilsners Festival. The wildlife even becomes more active in the fall, and tourists can get an “I experienced the Elk Rut” sticker if they see elk during the mating season in September and October.
Gatlinburg, Tennessee came in first place, with the Great Smoky Mountains and Smoky Mountain Fall Festival.
