More than 584 miles of road closed in Colorado due to ‘safety concerns’ amid big snow

Numerous road closures are in place in Colorado, most of which are located east of I-25. The travel issues come after 12-plus inches of snow have landed in this part of the state over the last 48 hours with a lot more snow on the way.

Road closures vary and are subject to rapid change – for the most up-to-date information, check out the Colorado Department of Transportation CoTrip travel map.

With that said, here’s a look at what roads have major closures or alerts in place on Thursday morning:

  • CO 83 closed southbound due to a vehicle recovery between Palmer Divide Avenue and Walker Road
  • CO 86 closed in both directions between mile point 24 and mile point 59.2
  • US 24 closed in both directions between Calhan and Limon (MM 340 to MM 376)
  • I-70 closed eastbound between Watkins and Limon (MM 292 to 358) due to safety concerns
  • CO 71 closed in both directions between Last Chance and Limon and between Limon and CO 94 (MM 72.6 to MM 100) due to safety concerns
  • CO 94 closed in both directions between MM 35 and MM 86
  • CO 59 closed in both directions due to safety concerns between Kit Carson and Haxtun (MM 0 to MM 147)
  • I-25 southbound from Pueblo to Trinidad is closed (MM 91 to MM 0) due to safety concerns *** UPDATE: Closure now includes both north and south directions, as of a post from about 9:51 a.m.
  • US 350 closed in both directions from El Moro to La Junta (MM 0 to MM 72)
  • CO 109 closed in both directions from US 160 to La Junta (MM 0 to MM 56)
  • CO 389 closed in both directions from the New Mexico State Line to US 160 (MM 0 to MM 12)
