Police: 600 pounds of marijuana stolen from evidence container

The Colorado State Patrol's container was in Arapahoe County

Colorado State Patrol officials are requesting information about two vehicles likely involved in a burglary on Tuesday, April 1, that resulted in about 600 pounds of marijuana being stolen from a secured container in Arapahoe County.

The vehicles — a light-colored 1999-2005 Chevy Silverado with an extended cab and a white 2007 Honda CRV — may have been traveling together on the night of the burglary, police said in a news release Wednesday.

Officers first learned of the burglary last Friday when an evidence technician noticed damage on a side gate away from the facility’s entrance, police said. A further investigation found that the container had been broken into and the contents of it had gone missing.

While investigating the incident, police determined that the suspects arrived after dark and used a power tool to remove locks both on a side gate and on the container. Officers then identified gaps in the facility’s security process, and have increased camera checks and security walkthroughs since the incident, in addition to undergoing an internal investigation, police said.

The marijuana had been taken into evidence as part of a highway drug investigation and there is no active court case involving it, police said.

Anyone with information about the vehicles is asked to call CSP at 303-239-4501.
