Mark your calendar for July 8-12; that’s when 250 of the top talent in professional rodeo — PRORODEO Champions from the U.S. and Canadian Circuits, plus National Champs from Mexico — will be in town to compete in the NFR Open at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. Payouts are over $1 million, so plan on saddling up to get to the Norris Penrose Event Center (which just happens to offer one of the best backdrops in the U.S.!) The contestants are in it to win it!

Where grit meets grace

Rodeo is more than a sport; it’s a way of life that is on full display at the NFR Open at the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo. It’s where cowboys’ and cowgirls’ dreams take flight, and the past meets the present, through old stories that come alive … as new ones are written. Cowboys and cowgirls are businesspeople and athletes; hard working, tough, tenacious American folk heroes. They are passionate and persistent, full of heart and hustle. You will want to see them test their limits as they strive to become legends. Among the events: Bareback Riding, Breakaway Roping, Steer Wrestling, Team Roping, Saddle Bronc Riding, Tie-Down Roping, Barrel Racing, and Bull Riding.

Fun for the whole family!

Rodeo entertainment includes Announcers Boyd Polhamus and Garrett Yerigan, Barrel Man Johnny “Backflip” Dudley, Clown Allan Dessel, Bullfighters Cody Emerson and Erick Schwindt, the precision riding skills of the Pikes Peak Range Rider Pivots & Rangerettes, and the bucking bulls and broncs! This year’s Girl of the West, Emma Considine, will also be appearing, promoting the “Western way of life,” as she does at all public appearances as the Rodeo’s ambassador. A Colorado Springs native, Considine is deeply involved in the Rodeo community, with a number of honors under her belt (buckle!). She graduated from Village High School and is studying business marketing at the University of Wyoming. Her favorite activities are always outdoors and range from skiing to rafting and trail riding.

Considine joins a long line of Girls making history.
