Summer is here and for many, that means the scent of freshly smoked barbecue floating through the air. While Colorado might not be known as a ‘barbecue’ state in the same way places like Texas, North Carolina, and Kansas are, there are plenty of great local options when it comes to brisket, pulled pork, smoked sausage.
A recent report from Mashed sought to track down the best barbecue restaurant in each state around the country, and the Colorado pick was Post Oak Barbecue.
Rated 4.6 stars on Google Reviews and located on Denver’s Tennyson Street, Post Oak Barbecue literally lives up to its name in that the restaurant imports all of its post oak that’s used in the cooking process from what’s perhaps the best barbecue city in the country.
“Post Oak is the most down-to-earth Texas barbecue you’ll find anywhere in Colorado,” reads the company’s website. “We aren’t faking anything. Our pits are 100% wood-fired and we only use authentic Post Oak delivered directly from Austin, Texas. Hey, if it’s good enough to be Central Texas tradition for more than 100 years, we figure it’s good enough for us.”
Meanwhile, the restaurant takes pride in its high-quality meat, too, using only all-natural certified Angus beef and locally-sourced poultry.
A few of the Post Oak Barbecue menu items patrons rave about online include the pulled pork sandwich, the brisket sandwich, beef ribs, bacon mac, and pork belly. Explore the full menu here and check out daily specials here.
