Broncos announce “preferred site” for new stadium following rumors
The Denver Broncos might not be playing at Empower Field at Mile High for much longer – at least that’s the case, if plans for a new stadium come to fruition.
On Tuesday, co-owners of the team along with Mayor Johnston and Governor Polis announced that Burnham Yard is the “preferred site” for the construction of the next Broncos stadium, per a report from Denver Gazette. This follows rumors of the potential for a new stadium site after the team was connected to numerous land deals in the area totaling $146 million.
While the idea of a new stadium is making headlines, the target date for its completion isn’t until the 2031 NFL season, with the Broncos’ lease for games at Empower Field at Mile High running through 2030.
The Broncos hope to have a retractable roof at the new stadium and natural grass, with Burnham Yard located about one mile southeast of where the team plays now.
