Charlie Kirk memorial at Colorado home reportedly torched while kids slept inside

A headline about a Charlie Kirk memorial that was reportedly lit aflame in Loveland, Colorado has been making waves online in recent days.

According to a report from Denver’s FOX31, a Loveland family had painted memorial on their fence following the assassination of the conservative activist on September 10. At about 11:15 p.m. on September 13, the family says the fence was reportedly burned by vandals while five children slept inside of the home. A window of the family’s SUV was also reportedly smashed.

Images posted online appear to show a handmade sign with black lettering on white that reads “RIP CHARLIE WE STAND WITH YOU!!” A row of small American flags are above the sign, with the sign affixed to a white picket fence.

In hours that have followed the reported incident, plenty of commentary has taken place online. One Reddit post, in particular, has already gotten more than 350 comments in the 13 hours that it has been live.

Comments show a mixed reaction from those active in the Denver-themed thread, presumably with a lot of locals chiming in.

Some people have doubted the validity of the story, while others expressed the opinion that more attention should be given to the tragic shooting that took place on the same day of Kirk’s death at Evergreen High School instead. While most commenters seemed to either downplay the act or push the conversation toward Kirk’s politics, some also expressed concern with the act itself.

“Why are we celebrating this? The vandals started a fire on private property with children inside,” wrote one person.

It appears as if a GoFundMe page has been created related to that incident.

“In the wake of a tragic event that shook our nation, my family has stood in solidarity with the message of love and support for Charlie Kirk, as displayed on our sign, “RIP Charlie, we stand with you,” reads that page. “However, this expression of solidarity was met with an act of hate that shattered our peace and endangered our family, including our five children.”
