Body recovered from Colorado River near riverfront trail

According to the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office, their agency responded to the report of a body being found in the Colorado River in the area of 21 Road and the Riverfront Trail-Monument View at about 9:40 a.m. on September 22.

The body was found submerged in the water just north of the Independence Ranch area of the Redlands. The body has since been recovered and was identified as 60-year-old Billy Joe Roberts of Grand Junction, according to the Mesa County Coroner’s Office.

The circumstances of Roberts’ death remain under investigation, with an autopsy still to take place at last report. The cause and manner of death will be released at a later date.
