“Selfless actions”: Man kills dog during attack on multiple people in Colorado town

A dog attack took place in the Colorado town of Lamar on September 25, resulting in injuries being sustained by multiple people.

According to a report on the matter, the dog – believed to be a pit bull mix, was seen leaving its owners’ property in the area of the 400 block of Sharon Drive. After leaving the property, its owners witnessed it attempting to attack another dog that was on a leash in its owner’s yard.

The owner of the leashed dog stepped in and was then attacked by the pit bull mix.

Two parties attempted to assist in the situation, with one of the individuals, identified as Michael Bannister of Lamar, successful in stopping the attack by killing the pit bull mix. Multiple injured parties were then given medical attention and released.

The dog that was attacked by the pitbull mix died due to injuries it sustained.

The dog’s owner was charged with various municipal and state violations related to the incident including the following: dog running at large, licensing and vaccination requirements, pitbull required to be spayed or neutered, and unlawful ownership of a dangerous dog resulting in serious bodily injuries.

The Lamar Police Department thanked Bannister for his “selfless actions in stopping the attack, putting himself in great risk and preventing any further attack which could have been tragic.”

All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
