Great Horned Owl rescued after getting stuck in barbed wire fence

An owl was rescued after getting stuck in barbed wire fence and sustaining an apparent broken wing in Lakewood on Wednesday morning.

According to reporting from FOX31, someone had reported seeing the stuck owl in a fence near Morrison Road and Bear Creek Boulevard on Wednesday morning. The Lakewood Police Department’s animal control and the city’s park rangers responded to save the owl.

“This little guy had a rather scary start to his morning today,” police wrote in a Facebook post.

FOX31 said that the bird was taken to the Birds of Prey Foundation, a nonprofit in Broomfield, which works to rehabilitate “injured and orphaned raptors.”

Experts at the foundation took out the remaining barbed wire and treated the owls’ wounds. The LPD said she had a broken wing.

The owl will be cared for at the Birds of Prey Foundation until she recovers, according to FOX31.
