“I was just having fun”: Motorcyclist estimated at 120 MPH prior to stop in remote Colorado

According to the Custer County Sheriff’s Office, a motorcyclist was stopped in the area of Silver Cliff on October 5 after getting caught allegedly traveling at a “dangerously high rate of speed.”

The report on the matter notes that the motorcyclist was estimated to be traveling 120 miles per hour on Highway 96 near Bear Basin, later clocked at 98 miles per hour while approaching the town of Silver Cliff.

A deputy was able to safely stop and make contact with the rider, identified as a 20-year-old male from Pueblo. Upon making contact, it was determined that the male’s sport bike was not registered and that the rider did not have the required motorcycle endorsement on his driver’s license.

It’s unclear what the speed limit was where the motorcyclist was reportedly clocked at 98 MPH, though a sign seen in an image included with the press release on the matter indicates a 40 MPH speed limit in the area that the stop occurred.

When the deputy asked the rider why he was traveling so fast, his reply was reportedly: “I was just having fun.”

Details about what charges or penalties the radar may face were not included in a press release on the matter.

All suspects are to be considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
