DON’T GET A TICKET: ‘Speed enforcement cameras’ coming to mountain town in Colorado
“We hear from residents regularly that speeding is a top traffic concern in town,” reads a press release from the City of Glenwood Springs, with a new initiative to improve local traffic safety involving the addition of speed enforcement cameras on city streets.
The initial roll-out of the cameras is taking place in October, with a 30-day ‘warning period’ to be followed by full enforcement. Once full enforcement is underway, tickets will be issued by mail to speeding drivers.
According to a press release on the matter, 90 percent of the streets in Glenwood Springs have a speed limit of 25 miles per hour or less. This speed limit gets broken on a regular basis, with speeding identified as one of the top two causes of severe traffic accidents both locally and nationally.
The speed enforcement cameras will only be utilized on public streets, per the press release on the matter, and drivers will get a heads up with in-advance signage that notifies drivers about the camera’s presence posted at least 300 feet from the enforcement zone. Cameras will be placed in plain view.
The locations of the cameras will be as follows:
- 100 block of Midland Avenue
- 600 block of Midland Avenue
- 3000 block of Midland Avenue
- 3500 block of S. Glen Avenue
