Boulder removed after blocking traffic on highway

Both lanes are now open on Highway 145 after a large boulder caused the road to be closed in San Miguel County on Saturday morning.

In a Facebook post, the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office said that a large boulder the size of a sedan was blocking the northbound lane on Highway 145 mile marker 64.5, which is about one mile north of the Ophir turns. Drivers were warned to expect traffic delays and to avoid the area if possible.

In an update at 11:30 a.m., the sheriff’s office said that both lanes on Highway 145 had been reopened.

In the same Facebook post, the sheriff’s office said that there was another rockfall incident on Norwood Hill, with steady rockfall blocking the eastbound lane of the road. In a 11:50 a.m. update, the sheriff’s office announced that the roadway had been cleared. However, deputies warned that more rockfall in the area is likely and to drive with caution.
