Iconic Colorado hotel ranks among best haunted hotels in the US

With ghostly presences, blinking lights, and mysterious sounds, haunted hotels are not for the faint of heart.

USA Today recently published their list of the best haunted hotels across the U.S., and with it’s spooky history, it’s no wonder that one Colorado hotel made the list.

USA Today’s 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards highlight the best in destinations, food and drink, hotels, and things to do. An expert panel nominates their top picks and readers vote to determine the ten winners.

The Stanley Hotel, located in Estes Park, took eighth place on the list. Set in front of the Rocky Mountains, The Stanley Hotel’s “haunted history” goes back to 1909. However, author Stephen King made the hotel famous when he used it as inspiration for his book “The Shining.”

The hotel offers a variety of spooky and exciting tours, including the Historic Hotel Tour, the Stanley Night Tour, The Shining Tour, and the Frozen Dead Guy Tour.

The Fainting Goat Island Inn in Nichols, New York took first place.
