Appearance of large swastika at open space visible along I-70 under investigation in Colorado

An investigation is underway in Colorado’s Jefferson County after a swastika was discovered on Jefferson County Open Space property in an area visible from I-70 on Saturday. The swastika was reported to be near Lookout Mountain and the city of Golden. Images of the swastika show that it is quite large, spanning much of a hillside along the road.

Open Space rangers and deputies from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office worked quickly to remove it, though an investigation into how it ended up there in the first place continues.

Reporting from KDVR indicates that the swastika was made of plastic.

“We strongly condemn this vile, antisemitic symbol of hate,” reads a press release from Jefferson County on the matter. “We stand united with our community against intolerance in any form. This shameful act does not reflect our community’s values and will not be tolerated.”
