Fatal semi-truck crash shuts down I-70 in Colorado
An early morning semi-truck crash proved fatal on Colorado’s I-70, shutting down westbound lanes near Silverthorne for an extended period of time.
According to Colorado State Patrol, the crash took place at about 5:42 a.m. on October 12 between Silverthorne and the west side of the Eisenhower tunnel, involving one vehicle. A semi-truck went off the right side of the road, crashed, and caught on fire. All occupants of the truck were pronounced dead at the scene, though it was unclear how many people were in the truck at the time of the crash due to the extensive damage and the fire that resulted from the crash.
Westbound lanes closed following the crash with travelers in the area told to expect an extended closure. At the time the press release on the matter went out at about 11:02 a.m., there was not estimated time of reopening. At 12:28 p.m., the road was still closed.
