Man severely injured after “significant” fall at abandoned factory in Colorado

Exploring abandoned spaces in Colorado can bring plenty of risk, as was highlighted in a situation that unfolded on October 12.
According to the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, a 23-year-old man was severely injured after taking a fall of about two stories in the abandoned Great Western Sugar Factory located on the eastern side of Longmont. The man placed the call about the significant fall himself from inside of the property.
Once first responders arrived at the scene, a drone was used to help locate the man. Due to the man’s location, a saw was used to cut through an exterior wall of the structure in order to access the man in the most direct and safest way.
Once the man was rescued, he was transported to a local hospital with severe injuries to his face and limbs. Several other people were also discovered to be on the property at the time, all issued citations for trespassing.
Authorities reminded the public that entering the sugar mill is illegal and dangerous.
Per reporting from Denver Gazette’s Jonathan Ingraham, the facility closed in 1977 and has had issues with fires due to vandalism and trespassing since.
