Teen left with life-threatening injuries after dirt bike accident at abandoned golf course

According to Colorado State Patrol, a serious dirt bike crash involving two juvenile riders took place in the Colorado Springs area on the evening of October 13.
Preliminary reports indicate two teens – 13 and 14 – were riding separate dirt bikes at an abandoned golf course near Rolling Ridge Road when the accident occurred – this road is located on the city’s southeast side.
One teen was headed westbound on a dirt trail toward a hill, while the other was approaching the hill while headed southbound. Both teens went up the hill from different sides and became airborne. At that point, the 13-year-old rider was struck in the head by the back tire of the other’s bike while traveling beneath it.
When a Colorado State Patrol trooper arrived at the scene both dirt bikers were still on the ground and separated from their bikes. Both riders had motorcycle helmets on at the time of the crash.
The 13-year-old who was struck by the tire was transported from the scene for medical care via air ambulance with life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, the 14-year-old was transported via ground ambulance with serious injuries.
The crash remains under investigation at this time.
