Major Colorado resort to host early-season ‘ski ballet’ competition with $1K prize
Lifts aren’t spinning quite yet at Colorado’s Winter Park Resort, but an early-season event that’s sure to be entertaining is already on the calendar.
On November 15, the resort will be hosting an ‘Amateur Ski Ballet’ competition, scheduled to take place on Cranmer to Snoasis. For a cost of $15, participants will be able to dance it out for a chance at a $1,000 prize.
“Costumes? Yes! Drama? Absolutely,” reads the registration page for the event. “Come channel your creative expression through skis (or board) and compete for laughs, glory, and great prizes.”
Participants age 16-plus are invited to participate. Check-in will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. the day of, with ski ballet lasting from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. followed by a 3 p.m. awards ceremony.
Find more information and register here. While Winter Park isn’t open yet, it tends to open around November 8. The resort aims to open as soon as possible for the 2025-2026 season, as conditions permit.
Think you ski ballet skills aren’t quite there yet? Monarch Mountain is another Colorado spot that dabbles in the sport, typically hosting clinics and a spring competition. The spot hasn’t confirmed whether or not they’ll be doing this again this season quite yet, but if the trend of recent years continues, look for announcements as spring approaches.
