Colorado ski resort opens Saturday afternoon after A-Basin announces opening date
Keystone Resort announced its opening for the season on Saturday, Oct. 25, just an hour and a half before lifts started running.
The opening makes Keystone the first ski area in the country to begin the ski season this winter.
Keystone’s gondola will start running at 3 p.m. and close at 6 p.m. today. According to a release from the resort, the will be more than two miles of groomed terrain on the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails. This year is also the first time Keystone is starting the season in the afternoon.
To celebrate the season opening, there will be an early season hike-to terrain park under snowcat lights, a live DJ, and $5.50 beers on tap to celebrate the 55th season.
“We’re thrilled to kick off the season here at Keystone with over two miles of skiing and riding,” said Shannon Buhler, Keystone Resort vice president and general manager, in the press release. “We know how much this moment means to our employees and community, and our team has poured their hearts into creating an incredible early opening celebration. We’re just excited to be back on snow!”
The announcement came shortly after Arapahoe Basin Ski Area announced its opening for Sunday, Oct. 24.
Beginning on Sunday, Keystone will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
