First skier-triggered avalanche reported in Colorado

The Colorado Avalanche Information Center (CAIC) has announced the first skier-triggered avalanche of the 2025/26 season.

The CAIC said that the avalanche was reported on Friday, Oct. 24 near Treasury Mountain in the Elk Mountains. Eight inches of snow fell in the area overnight.

“This setup reminds us that even small early-season slides can happen on steep slopes where you find 10 inches of more of consistent snow,” reads the post from the CAIC.

The CAIC also said that daily forecasts will resume on Nov. 1.
