Jeep gets stuck in 2 feet of snow on remote Colorado pass

A jeep got stuck in snow near the summit of Engineer Pass on Thursday, with the motorists rescued by search and rescue teams.

According to a Facebook post from Hinsdale County Search and Rescue, they were called to assist San Juan and Ouray counties in rescuing the stranded motorists on Oct. 23 at 6:50 p.m.

The stranded motorists, a father and son visiting from Florida, had become stuck in about two feet of snow at around 4 p.m. Search and rescue teams made contact with them by 9:45 p.m.

Engineer Pass is located in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. It connects the mountain towns of Ouray and Lake City as part of the Alpine Loop Scenic Byway. Engineer Pass’s summit sits at 12,800 feet high.

“We’re grateful for the quick coordination between county teams and for a safe outcome for all involved,” reads the Facebook post from Hinsdale County Search and Rescue.
