The spooky tale of the hitchhiker on Colorado’s Gold Camp Road

Gold Camp Road is known as a stunning scenic drive in Colorado Springs that offers wonderful views of the mountainous terrain found west of the city. That said, some aspects of its past are a bit spooky..

As a former railroad route, the road is now used for activities like hiking and biking, but it’s also known for the unsettling legend of a school bus collapsing in Tunnel 3, killing schoolchildren and the person driving the bus. Whether or not that story is fact is often debated.

That’s not the only creepy tale about the area, though – there’s also a story involves a ghostly inhabitant that prowls around the road, hoping to entice drivers for a ride.

A phantom hitchhiker is said to be seen along the road. According to The Dinner Detective, with the hitchhiker supposedly being that of a young woman who was killed in a car accident in the 1970s. However, even with numerous sightings, the hitchhiker’s identity is still a mystery.

So, the next time you’re driving, hiking, or biking Gold Camp Road as daylight wanes, you might spot a ghostly apparition searching fro a ride.
