5 early-season ski town events around Colorado

Ski season has officially arrived in Colorado, and resort celebrations are about to be in full swing. With everything from live DJs to opening day parties, there is no shortage of enthusiasm for ski season in the Centennial State.

Here’s a look at some early-season events taking place in Colorado this year:

  1. Amateur Ski Ballet

Date: Nov. 15

Winter Park Resort is hosting an Amateur Ski Ballet competition this year, and it offers participants a chance to win $1,000. Participants are invited to channel their “creative expression through skis (or board) and compete for laughs, glory, and great prizes.” Check out more information about the event here.

2. Vail’s Opening Day

Date: Nov. 14

Vail Ski Resort is opening for the season on Nov. 14, and the day will feature sweet treats, warm drinks, swag giveaways, and more. There will also be the first apres of the year at Express Lift Bar with DJ Littlefoot, brats, brews, and a complimentary whiskey tasting.

3. Breckenridge Ullr Fest

Date: Dec. 18-20

Breckenridge’s Ullr Fest is an iconic Breckenridge festival. Guests are invited to put on their Viking helmets and celebrate “all things winter” at the festival. Festival-goes praise Ullr, the Norse god of snow, hoping for a powder-filled ski season. The festivities include a Main Street parade and an attempt to break the World Record for the longest Shotski.

4. Copper Mountain Opening Day Celebration

Date: Nov. 7

Celebrate the beginning of the ski season at Copper Mountain with free hot chocolate and coffee, and power bars from the Copper Bark Shop, and YETI giveaways for the first 50 skiers and riders in the American Eagle lift line. There will also be a DJ in Eagle’s Landing at the Aerie patio.

5. Granby Ranch Opening Day

Date: Nov. 26

Kick off the ski season at Granby Ranch with their opening day celebration. The resort will begin the holiday season with a celebration including dining, discounted holiday shopping, and skiing.
