City of Boulder urges visitors to view Boulder Star from afar
The city of Boulder is reminding the public to view the Boulder Star from afar as the date for the star being lit approaches.
Boulder’s Open Space and Mountain Parks staff and the Boulder Chamber will light the Boulder Star on Nov. 11, which is Veterans Day.
The Boulder Star area on Flagstaff Mountain is closed.
The area is closed to protect nearby sensitive wildlife areas, prevent natural resource damage from sustained visitation over the year, and minimize illegal activities occurring in the area.
Check out a list of open space locations to see the star here.
The lighting of the Boulder Star commemorates Veterans Day, kicks off the holiday season, and “rings in a season of hope, generosity and inspiration as the star shines brightly over Boulder.”
This year is the 78th anniversary of the Boulder Star’s first lighting on Flagstaff Mountain in Dec. 1947.
According to the press release from the City of Boulder, the star has been improved this year with an :innovative” remote sensor that will conserve energy by ensuring the star turns on and off at the right time. It will also automatically turn off during high winds to prevent fire danger.
