According to a report from the Colorado Springs Gazette, the vehicle entered the King Soopers parking lot off of Uintah Street before making a right turn and driving toward the grocery store at a high rate of speed. The driver of the vehicle was fully cooperative with law enforcement, claiming that the crash was an accident and that there was no criminal intent.
The store was closed following the incident, per a report from The Gazette.
Per the fire department report about the incident, the six people who were injured sustained minor injuries. The driver was reportedly hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries and may be included in that number.
Following the crash, heavy rescue crews worked to stabilize the structure, with hazardous material crews utilized to ensure the “electric vehicle [did] not go into thermal runaway as [it was] being towed out of the store.”
